CENTURY Ambassador Event – TeacherGENie Preview
Estimated reading time: 2 minutes
CENTURY offers teachers the chance to become a CENTURY ambassador and be part of a dynamic community of users, sharing best practice and influencing the direction of the product.
One of the benefits of being a CENTURY ambassador is the chance to attend feature preview sessions with our Product team. Back in June, David Camilleri, responsible for CENTURY’s AI and machine learning products, presented one of our new AI features, TeacherGENie. The session was a chance for ambassadors to play around with this new feature which pairs CENTURY’s high quality content and generative AI to create editable worksheets that you can share with your class. Abigail Opoku, one of our account managers, who also leads on the Ambassador Network, was on hand to support attendees with logging in to test accounts, helping to field questions and gather feedback.
David opened the session by explaining the rationale behind the feature and what it can bring to teachers and learners; making generative AI as accessible as possible to teachers and ensuring it fits into an education setting. By using CENTURY’s content we can ensure that high-quality questions are being generated.
Attendees were able to get an insight into how the feature was developed. The activities are based on video transcripts of our lessons as well as assessment questions, with the transcripts helping to give additional context to the questions. In the case where some questions can’t be interpreted because they involve the use of images that can’t be read, we can make a question based on the transcript alone. As part of this first release, TeacherGENie will be available for primary, secondary and FE English, primary science as well as PE and digital skills, with geography and secondary science to follow soon.
Teachers in attendance had lots of feedback on the TeacherGENie commenting how TeacherGENie is going to help her learners who have vision issues and struggle with laptop computers. Feedback also focussed on the potential ability moving forward for students to input their answers onto the platform, enabling us to close the feedback loop. Other suggestions in terms of potential future releases came in the form of having the ability to change the question order, or to build a worksheet including questions from multiple topics. These comments, amongst others, were added to a feedback form, which will help us to refine the product further.
