Private and online tutoring

Use CENTURY data insights to plan your online and in-person tutoring sessions. You can view the tutee's progress on a topic, micro-lesson and question level. Make interventions in your sessions more effective and address learning roadblocks.

Save time on resource creation and marking with our library of high-quality learning content, or experiment with time-saving features within the CENTURY Labs area.

Diagnostic assessments

CENTURY's diagnostics let you map initial levels of understanding in minutes.

With diagnostic assessments available for every key topic in English, maths and science from year 2 to 11, you can use the data to quickly identify learning gaps and plan your tutoring sessions to address them.

Independent study

Set work for students to complete in their own time to complement your tutoring sessions with no extra effort.

With Smart Assignments on CENTURY, you can choose from thousands of resources or let our AI recommend the most effective content for each tutee. Set work for individuals or small groups with ease, and benefit from automatic marking and instant, personalised feedback that supports rapid progress.

Exam revision

CENTURY makes it simple for students to revise their learning both through independent study and tutor-directed activities.

The adaptive Recommended Pathway on CENTURY acts as a personalised revision plan for every student. As students complete work, they receive questions designed for exam practice and feedback on how to improve.

Parent engagement

Empower parents and guardians with information to support their child's learning. Share a student's performance at regular catch ups or through the Guardian Portal to help parents see their child's progress and the value of tutoring sessions.

Why tutors love CENTURY

In terms of our exam experiences, we had an incredible success rate - around 90% of our applicants were invited to interview at the most academic schools in London, such as St Paul's, Westminster and Eton College - and I feel our use of CENTURY to build familiarity really helped our cohort this year.

Students have commented that CENTURY’s interface is really easy to navigate and they like the fact that they can access a range of subjects. They just filter their pathway and their homework is all in one place. We really appreciate that as a company, because we used to use two separate online platforms before we came across CENTURY and this just ties it all up together nicely.

Students definitely do more homework [on CENTURY] and we can see an improvement. We’ve had parent feedback about academic progress as well. With a worksheet, parents are more inclined to intervene, so the homework you’re receiving back on paper isn’t always necessarily what the child has done. Parents are more inclined to let them get on independently with CENTURY.

CENTURY has been invaluable for our tutoring practice. While its usage varies from student to student, we appreciate the platform's ability to allow us to work effectively with students without the need for manual grading, all while providing real-time data to personalise instruction and maximise learning outcomes.

FAQs

How does CENTURY use AI?

CENTURY’s main functionality within the Recommended Path and the data dashboards leverages cutting-edge, proprietary non-generative AI technology. These AI models analyse previous performance on CENTURY to identify strengths, gaps in knowledge and misconceptions, using this analysis to predict how a student performs next. These predictions are in turn used to make personalised recommendations on what they should study next.

CENTURY incorporates rules alongside the AI model predictions to ensure that recommendations are appropriate and beneficial. These rules include specific boundaries to avoid potential bias and ensure recommendations are fair and effective for all students.

This AI system is built, hosted and trained in-house on billions of rich, real-world learning interactions from students around the world. As a result, CENTURY’s recommendation system is uniquely informed for teaching and learning.

Does CENTURY use generative AI?

CENTURY also offers optional features which use generative AI technology, also known as Large Language Models, or LLMs. All CENTURY features which use generative AI have ‘GENai’ in their name, so that it is easy for teachers to identify them. In these features, CENTURY uses an externally created LLM (for example, OpenAI models) for particular aspects of the tool, but we add our own guardrails on top of this to ensure safety and reliability. CENTURY does not send student or teacher personal information to the LLM.

Some of these features allow students to input text which is then shared with the LLM. Students cannot use these tools unless a teacher approves their access. All text added by students can be seen by teachers, and we have specific safeguarding processes built in. There is no conversational interface for the student to interact with the LLM directly.
