Empowering Teachers: CENTURY Ambassador Smart Assignments Preview Event

That’s why our Ambassador Network is so crucial – it’s a dynamic community where educators can share best practices and directly influence the future of our product. One of the most exciting perks of being a CENTURY Ambassador is gaining exclusive access to our feature preview sessions with the Product team.

Recently, we hosted a highly anticipated preview event showcasing our brand-new Smart Assignments feature. It was a fantastic opportunity for our Ambassadors to get a first look at how this innovative tool will revolutionise the way they set work for their students.

A Glimpse into Smart Assignments

The session, led by Zasha O’Brien, our Product Lead, along with Abigail and Becky from the Ambassador support team, kicked off with an introduction to the rationale behind Smart Assignments, highlighting how they bring together CENTURY’s powerful AI recommendations with the flexibility of our existing assignment features. We know that teachers already love the ease of setting up assignments, Smart Assignments take this to the next level by allowing teachers to select a starting point, then letting CENTURY’s AI intelligently adapt and recommend “Smart Nuggets” for each student.

A key benefit to this new feature is the automatic personalisation. Instead of teachers spending valuable time customising homework for individual students’ needs, Smart Assignments leverage CENTURY’s AI to deliver content tailored to each student’s learning gaps, weaknesses, and strengths. Smart Assignments also address a common challenge: tracking student progress. Teachers can easily see which Smart Nuggets students have completed directly within the Assignments Markbook, making it simple to identify areas where additional support might be needed.

After Zasha’s introduction, Ambassadors were given access to a demo environment to experience Smart Assignments firsthand. They were encouraged to explore the Markbook for already completed smart assignments and then create their own and then logged in as students to experience Smart Assignments from a learner’s perspective. This hands-on approach allowed for immediate feedback and clarification on various aspects of the feature.

The event generated a lively discussion, with Ambassadors sharing their immediate impressions and posing thoughtful questions. Here’s a summary of the valuable feedback we received:

Key Benefits:

• Enhanced Personalisation: Teachers were enthusiastic about the added level of personalisation, recognising it as a core differentiator for CENTURY. They highlighted how it caters to both stretching advanced learners and providing foundational support for those who need it.
• Time-Saving for Teachers: The ability for the AI to select appropriate nuggets for individual students was seen as a major time-saver, reducing the need for manual differentiation. As one Ambassador put it, “I think speed is the best thing”.
• Simplified Tracking: The Markbook’s enhanced tracking capabilities were highly praised, making it easier for teachers to monitor student completion and performance on assigned work.

Clarification:

• Nugget Selection Logic:  There were inquiries about how the AI selects specific nuggets. David Camilleri, our Technical Product Manager explained that the recommendations leverage all diagnostic links and prior learning on the platform, constantly prioritising the highest-priority learning at that time.
