CENTURY Ambassador Spotlight – Katie Bailey – Kensington Wade
Estimated reading time: 3 minutes
Katie Bailey, a CENTURY Ambassador and Deputy Head at Kensington Wade School, shares insights into how her school has successfully integrated the CENTURY platform to support student learning and empower teachers. She discusses the measurable impact on independent learning and teacher workload, and offers valuable advice for other educators looking to implement CENTURY effectively.
How have you embedded CENTURY in your organisation?
- CENTURY is used both in class and for homework, ensuring a balance between online work and offline written tasks.
- In class, nuggets are set as assignments or through the Planner so they sit at the front of a child’s Recommended Path.
- CENTURY is used to consolidate learning and to target areas for 11+ preparation.
How do teachers use the data on CENTURY?
- Diagnostics are used at the beginning and end of each topic to track student progress and identify misconceptions.
- The interventions graph, with its four quadrants, is regularly used to support children and understand where they are at in their learning journey.
- Staff regularly use the dashboard data for report writing and parent progress meetings, gaining valuable insights into student performance.
What prompted your organisation to choose CENTURY?
When I joined Kensington Wade in 2020, mid-lockdown, CENTURY Tech was a really effective way for us to monitor student progress while learning online. It also provided parents with an equivalent of an online tutor without the associated cost. CENTURY is unique in using AI to create truly personalised learning pathways, which is crucial for addressing individual student needs and consolidating learning in various topics.
What measurable impact has CENTURY had on your organisation when it comes to teacher workload, student progress, and independent learning?
For us, it’s about fostering independent learning and ensuring the children take ownership and accountability for their own learning. Parents are very grateful for this aspect. In terms of student progress and teacher workload, CENTURY is highly beneficial as a measurable, constant resource. The instant results provided by the platform significantly reduce teacher workload, as the teachers don’t need to mark it or the students get immediate feedback.
What advice would you give to other schools or educators looking to replicate your success with CENTURY?
Give teachers and children sufficient time and flexibility to explore CENTURY. We’ve also found great success by running competitions to appoint CENTURY Tech Champions, which has significantly increased platform usage. Beyond that, use it as an assessment tool; start with the basics and build from there. I learned from an Ambassador Network event about the “go green” concept – if a child scores above 70%, they have completed the nugget successfully, but if they score below, they need to redo it.

Please could you tell us a bit more about the CENTURY Tech Champions competition?
In our prep department, from Year 3 to Year 6, each classroom has a “CENTURY Tech Champions” board. Every week, we highlight who has spent the most time on CENTURY. These results are posted monthly on a hallway board for children to see who’s topping the league in each year group. At the end of each year, we crown a “CENTURY Tech Champion” from each year group, who receives a metal badge and a certificate from CENTURY Tech. Our Year 5 students are particularly competitive, so we’ve built on CENTURY’s Mythic Path to create our own game.

The children have drawn different lands and badges and they track their performance, moving their name tags on a hallway board to show their progress. This approach is beneficial as not only does it celebrate those doing well but it encourages other children. The students came up with the entire game and we’re hoping other cohorts might come up with new games in the future.
