Launching CENTURY with Secondary Learners
Estimated reading time: 2 minutes
Integrating a new piece of technology into your secondary classroom can feel overwhelming, but here are some tips to help you effectively use CENTURY to support your teaching and reduce your workload:
Classroom resources:
To make the most of CENTURY in a secondary classroom, consider having the following equipment:
- 1-2-1 Devices: Ideal for individual work. If you have limited devices, CENTURY can still be used for group activities, small group or individual interventions, or as a teaching tool.
- Whiteboard / projector for displaying to a class or group.
- Headphones: Essential for students to engage with video content without distractions. Alternatively, you can use slides as another learning material.
- Calculator for maths and science.
- Mini-Whiteboards or Jotters: Useful for students to record their working out and solve problems.
Using CENTURY for teaching:
- Set specific nuggets as assignments that align with your teaching in class.
- Use CENTURY’s videos or slides as teaching tools.
- Display the learning material or questions on the board for starter activities.
- Use CENTURY’s questions as a short classroom activity.
- Use TeacherGENie (now Worksheet GENai) to create or print tailored questions (English only).
Using CENTURY for interventions:
- Use diagnostic data to identify groups that need support or more challenging content in specific areas.
- Use Nugget tab data to inform in-class interventions and address misconceptions.
- Use My Courses for students/additional adults to quickly and easily find appropriate learning content.
- Allow a class or group of students to address their learning gaps by following their Recommended Path.
- Use TeacherGENie (Worksheet GENai) to create or print tailored retrieval questions (English only).
Using CENTURY for assessment:
CENTURY offers rich data to enhance teacher assessment. Here’s how you can leverage it:
- Use diagnostics as pre-/post-assessments to measure progress at the start and end of a unit and to guide your planning.
- Assign specific nuggets for formative assessments during lessons.
- Set content from the previous year to assess prior learning of a topic.
- Navigate to My Courses and display nugget questions as a whole-class plenary activity.
